Printed copies of the New Zealand Building Code Acceptable Solutions, Verification Methods and Handbooks will no longer be available for purchase from Vic Books. A mutual agreement reached between the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s Building System Performance branch and Vic Books ends their exclusive contract on 15 December 2017.


Demand for printed copies has reduced over time, as personal printing technology has advanced and the use of digital PDF versions has become more commonplace.


All New Zealand Building Code documents and handbooks, including Acceptable Solutions, Verification Methods, updates and technical guidance can be found by Building Code clause on the Building Performance website. All documents are in PDF format and available for free to download.


Documents are protected by Crown copyright, unless otherwise indicated. You may use and reproduce these document for your personal use or for the purposes of your business provided you reproduce the document accurately and not in an inappropriate or misleading context. You may not distribute these documents to others or reproduce them for sale or profit.


A range of print providers are available in New Zealand that can create printed versions of these documents for you if necessary.

New Zealand Building Code documents are regularly reviewed and amended where required, it is therefore necessary to ensure any downloaded, or printed versions used to achieve compliance with the New Zealand Building Code are the latest versions, as published on the on the Building Performance website
